Vacation Bible School

On the 11th November 2019 a group of 55 children from  Patmos school attended a 5 day  Vacation Bible School (VBS) camp.  This annual event is aimed at nurturing children in the spiritual way.

On the first day during the morning session children were taught bible stories which focused on God’s love for all of us, this was followed in the afternoon with an  Arts and Crafts lesson which included colouring and drawing.  On the  second day the children were taught about the deep meaning of love and patience and were encouraged to ask questions during the lesson. All children from pre-school to upper primary participated.  In the afternoon session the children were again encouraged to express their creativity through Arts and Crafts.

The remaining three days of the VBS strongly focused on the core topics of Love, Truth and Respect and the importance of them in everyday life, how we should always be kind, honest and respectful to people. During the course of the week long Vacation Bible School the children were collected from and returned to school daily.  Lunch and breakfast was provided and served to all the children and accompanying teachers.

The teachers have reported that the VBS is highly recommended as it is having a positive impact on the children’s lives and their attitudes towards the future.   For children from Patmos School who live in the Mathare slum they are now understanding that there is hope for a better life and that through the teachings of God, they are learning how they can themselves seek to transform their own lives and those of others.

We are grateful to the members of Parklands Baptist Church, Embakasi for organising this event.
